SKILLS

Hey there.

I'm Sean, a computer science student at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, I’ve been learning to build things that push my capabilities as a developer to result in projects that I can be proud of while providing a useful service.

I got my start with making simple "Choose Your Own Adventure" games with the most inefficient system that consisted of what felt like endless layers of nested if statements. I had no idea what I was doing at the time and it wasn't until I started studying Computer Science at UTK that I began to get the tools necessary to create things "properly".

I'm particularly interested in the fields of software development, web design, and data science. However, I'm always looking for ways to apply my skills to solve real-world problems.

Outside of coding and school, I enjoy playing jazz on tenor sax. It has been a way to balance my creativity in coding and music to stay motivated and it keeps them both exciting and enjoyable as I progress in them. In fact, I believe that both skills benefit from each other.

Experience

"My experience has been in a diverse set of environments, all of which I believe are beneficial for developing skills necessary for my future career. Either in the form of customer interactions for personable skills, or from jobs directly related to my field. I have also had experience in leadership roles where I have to manage a team of people to achieve a goal."

July 2017 - June 2018

Target - Starbucks Barista

  • Demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of products, including origin, flavor profiles, and food pairings
  • Resolved customer complaints and issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Coordinated with vendors to order and restock products, ensuring an adequate inventory was maintained at all times
  • This was my first job. I was a Senior in high school and was in need of some kind of job for experience, plus it would be nice to be making my own money. I started as a cashier and then eventually became a barista at the Starbucks in the store. The experience gained wasn't anything special, but it allowed me to improve my people skills and customer service. This is something I find valuable when working with anyone, peers or customers.

    June 2021 - December 2021

    Total Wine - Merchandiser/Sales

  • Demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of products, including origin, flavor profiles, and food pairings
  • Resolved customer complaints and issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Coordinated with vendors to order and restock products, ensuring an adequate inventory was maintained at all times
  • Getting a job during COVID was hard, but I had a lot of experience with liquor and I saw this position. I even intended on becoming a bartender before covid, even to the point of getting my ABC license. This job was a lot of fun, as I was once again sharing something I enjoyed. Pairing liquor & wine with an individual's taste preference was something I found rewarding and this job allowed me to do it while getting paid.

    September 2023 - January 2024

    KeiganMotors - Software Developer

  • Built dynamic and responsive UI components using React.js for the motors, enabling seamless control and interaction
  • Developed Microsoft Teams App for the Telepresence Robot - a robot that could be controlled remotely through MS Teams video call
  • Collaborated with engineering teams to integrate developer-friendly APIs and SDKs into the UI, ensuring intuitive user experience
  • Current Position

    April 2022 - Present

    VolThon - VP of Finance

  • Managing all teams within the finance division, including Data Management, Fundrasing, Partnerships, and Purchasing, in collaboration with their reespective directors
  • Developed documentation to improve spending/fundrasing analysis and data tracking
  • Contributed to raising over $170,000 for East Tennessee Children's Hospital
  • This organization is very special to me. It is a non-profit at UTK that works with the local children's hospital to raise funds. As a child with many health complications, I was frequently in a different children's hospital in the same network. So this organization was an easy choice. I started in the Data Management Committee and climbed up to be an exec member, one position below the president. I've never been in a role this high up, but the vision of VolThon motivates me to succeed. Please visit "volthon.org" for more information!!

    Projects

"I always thought that I would create video games once I had the proper tools at my disposal, but in the process of aquiring those skills I found that I was far more interested in creating things that increased productivity or efficiency. I want to make elegant solutions that improve the QoL in the context that the application was developed for. Below are some of my favorite projects that I've developed."
